Rhémy de Noël

The children of Courmayeur await with trepidation Rhémy de Noël, the protagonist of a legend that has its roots in the bond that unites the town to Mont Blanc. The protagonist of the story goes down to the valley on Christmas Eve to deliver gifts to the children who have lit a lantern to show him the way to their houses. Every year, hundreds of letters arrive in the village for Rhémy, who responds meticulously to everyone.

The story of Rhémy de Noël

Rhémy de Noël dresses in red, has a large white beard, brings gifts to children, like Santa Claus, but is equipped like a real mountaineer, with mountain boots, ropes, backpack and ice axe. He is the protagonist of a special fairy tale, linked to the legend of the giant who lives on top of the Mont Blanc glaciers.

The story is now very popular among children: Rhémy, worried about the lack of snow, ventured towards the Mont Blanc glaciers to understand why, on Christmas Eve, the town had not yet been painted with snow. When he reached the summit he found the snow trapped by a Giant, who suffered from loneliness. Rhémy decided to stay with him to keep him company, and the Giant released the snow, which fell again on Courmayeur.
Since then, Rhémy only comes down to the valley on Christmas Eve, to deliver gifts to children who light a lantern to show him the way to Courmayeur.
